If you’re feeling sinister…

July 21, 2009 at 11:51 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

Anthony walked to his death because he thought he’d never feel this way again
If he goes back to the house then things would go from bad to worse, what could he do?
He wants to remember things exactly as he left them on that Wednesday
And if there is something else beyond, he isn’t scared because
It’s bound to be less boring than today
It’s bound to be less boring than tomorrow
Hilary walked to her death because she couldn’t think of anything to say
Everybody thought that she was boring, so they never listened anyway
Nobody was really saying anything of interest, she fell asleep She was into S&M and bible studies
Not everyone’s cup of tea she would admit to me

But if you are feeling sinister
Go off and see a minister
He’ll try in vain to take away the pain of being a hopeless unbeliever

But if you are feeling sinister
Go off and see a minister
Chances are you’ll probably feel better
If you stayed and played with yourself

-Belle and Sebastian

Believe it or not my spirits are pretty great today, I swear! I mostly wanted to post the last two paragraphs but the first was too good to leave out.

In science, ‘fact’ can only mean ‘confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.’ I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms.
-Stephen Jay Gould (1941-2002), paleontologist

All religions have this in common, that they are an outrage to common sense, for they are pierced together out of a variety of elements some of which seem so unworthy, sordid and at odds with man’s reason that any strong and vigorous intelligence laughs at them.
-Pierre Charron (1541-1603), Catholic priest

I am such a sucker for a good atheist quote!

Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make when in the presence of religious dogma. – Sam Harris

To save us all from floating magical beings in the sky…

December 5, 2008 at 8:06 pm (News) (, )

Atheists posted this sign beside a Nativity Scene outside a government building in Olympia, WA.

“Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds,” the sign says in part.

Dan Barker, a former evangelical preacher who now heads up the atheist and agnostic Freedom From Religion Foundation, said it was important for atheists to see their viewpoints validated alongside everyone else’s…

“It’s not that we are trying to coerce anyone; in a way our sign is a signal of protest,” Barker said. “If there can be a Nativity scene saying that we are all going to hell if we don’t bow down to Jesus, we should be at the table to share our views.”

He said if anything, it’s the Nativity scene that is the intrusion.

“Most people think December is for Christians and view our signs as an intrusion, when actually it’s the other way around,” he said. “People have been celebrating the winter solstice long before Christmas. We see Christianity as the intruder, trying to steal the holiday from all of us humans.”

The 50 lb sign was stolen a few hours after it’s erection (LOLZ) and thrown in a ditch. A temporary sign will replace it.

Gaylor said a note would be attached saying, Thou shalt not steal. “I guess they don’t follow their own commandments.” she said.

Is she really just figuring this out now?
